There is no Fonym account and no Fonym server. Your contacts, card photos and notes stay on your device, and reading the text on a card happens there too. Nothing leaves your device on its own — only what you share or back up yourself.

Because none of it waits on a network, the app works the same in a basement or a packed exhibition hall as it does on wifi or cellular.

HOW IT WORKS

Store a card six different ways: scan it with the camera, scan a QR code, import a photo, open a vCard file, paste copied text, or type it in yourself. However it arrives, it becomes a contact you can find again — search any field, sort by name, business or most recent, and filter by the tags you added.

Share your own card with a QR code that phones read with their built-in camera app, with no app required on their end. The QR code carries the contact itself rather than a link, so there is nothing to load and nothing to look up online — it works even when neither phone has a connection.
