Lightphase names the light you are standing in and counts down to the next one. Two answers, the moment you open it, wherever you happen to be. For photographers who plan around light instead of chasing it, and for anyone who wants to be on the summit, at the water, or back at the trailhead while there is still light to see by.

Golden hour at the overlook? You will know when to be there, and when it is over.
Back down the trail before you need a headlamp? Civil Twilight is the light you can still walk by, and Lightphase tells you when it ends.
Stars? Wait for Astronomical Twilight to finish. That is when the sky is actually dark, and it is later than you think.

Six phases, one model

Astronomical, Nautical and Civil Twilight. Golden Hour. The 35 degree Window. And the flat light above it. Each is a band of the sun's angle, so the boundaries are exact rather than roughly right. Blue hour is in there too, as the end of one twilight and the start of the next, and the app shows you exactly where.

Sunrise and sunset are the moment the sun's upper edge meets the horizon, which is the definition every almanac uses, so the times agree with the ones you already trust. Lightphase shows you where every number comes from rather than asking you to take its word for it.

A light palette for direct sunlight and a dark one for the hours around it. Every phase is named in words, so the reading never depends on telling one color from another.

Works where the signal does not

No account, no server, no solar API. The sun is computed on your device from your position and the time, so Lightphase works in airplane mode, in a canyon, on a ridge, and anywhere the bars run out.

Your location never leaves your device. Only the latest position is kept, on the device, so your widgets and complications can use it. It is never sent anywhere.
