nondaw

nondaw is a freeform canvas for experimenting with audio on the iPad. There is no left-to-right timeline: waves sit anywhere and point in any direction, and playheads are paths, whose sweep line plays every wave it crosses. How squarely the sweep strikes a wave, and how much of it it touches, can modulate speed, pitch, gain, filtering and more.

RECORD AND RESAMPLE
Import any audio file, or record straight onto the canvas. A rolling capture strip always holds the last stretch of what has been playing, from the microphone, or resampled from nondaw's own output, and a selection dragged out of it becomes a new wave on the canvas. A paused playhead can be scrubbed by hand.

AURAS
Auras are circular regions that process whatever plays inside them through an Audio Unit effect, feathered from the center to the rim. Apple's built-in effects are ready to go, and any AUv3 effect installed on your iPad works too. When auras overlap, a single sweep passes through all of them.

SHAPE THE MATERIAL
Split, join, duplicate, reverse, stretch and fade waves non-destructively. A per-playhead mixer keeps levels under your fingers while everything runs. Several playheads can sweep at once, each on its own path, each at its own speed.

MADE FOR THE IPAD
Apple Pencil Pro hover, squeeze and barrel roll are supported. Hardware keyboard shortcuts are provided. Playback continues in the background and while the screen is locked. Projects are single packages with every sound embedded. You can move them with the Files app, AirDrop them, back them up like any document. Example scenes and a short interactive tour are included, and the full manual is built in.

nondaw collects no data and makes no network requests.
