About Mushroom Maps GPS - MushScout
There is no signal in the woods, and every way back looks the same. MushScout records the route you walked and takes you back along it step by step, even with no network. And the spots you find stay a secret: your finds and outings are yours alone, not even your friends can see them.
YOUR TRACK, EVEN WITH NO SIGNAL
Start the outing when you set off and the app marks where you walk. The track is recorded on the phone: no network, no problem. At the end of the day you know how far you went, how much climb, and where you passed. If the phone dies or loses signal halfway, what you had done is not lost.
WALK IT AGAIN
The round that went well last year you can do again exactly: pick the outing and the app guides you along the same track, telling you if you drift away. It gets you back to the good spots, and back to the car when it got late.
OFFLINE MAPS
Save the area before you set off and the map works where nothing gets through. Contour lines and paths, so you can read the slope and which way it faces before you even get there.
SOS
If you need help, you send your exact position to whoever can come and get you. In the woods, "I am near the big chestnut" is no use to anyone.
AND WHEN YOU FIND SOMETHING
Log the find with a photo, species, altitude and woodland. From there the app starts working for you: it builds your archive, and next year it reminds you where you were on 5 September and what the weather was doing. The more you use it, the more it becomes yours.
SIXTEEN MUSHROOMS, SIXTEEN FORECASTS
The porcini waits for the rain of ten days ago. The chanterelle wants weeks of damp. The morel waits for the soil to warm. MushScout treats them as different mushrooms, because they are: pick the ones you look for and for each one you see today's score and the next six days.
WHAT THE PLACE IS LIKE
For every place you see which way the slope faces and how steep it is, the rain of the previous fifteen days, and what you have found there over the years. A north-facing slope holds the moisture when the heat will not let up; a south-facing one warms first when the others are still cold.
YOUR SPOTS STAY YOURS
The coordinates of your finds never leave your phone and never end up on any shared map. If you share a card with friends, the location is not on it: it is the first thing a forager asks, and the first one we answered.
SAFETY
MushScout is NOT a substitute for an expert. AI recognition can be wrong, and every species page has its own section on dangerous lookalikes. Before eating any mushroom, always have it checked by a mycologist or your local health authority.
