Aurora Forecast

Follow the northern lights (aurora borealis) and southern lights with Aurora Forecast. Bring live space weather, local sky conditions and aurora maps together to make a more informed decision about when to head outside. No account required.

LIVE CONDITIONS
Track the Kp index, solar wind speed, proton density and interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). Explore Bz and Bt charts and estimated lead time from upstream solar wind measurements to Earth. Lead time is not an exact aurora arrival time.

PLAN YOUR NIGHT
Check moon phase, moonrise, moonset and astronomical darkness to find darker viewing windows near you.

PLAN AHEAD
Explore the 3-day forecast and 27-day outlook, then compare them with current conditions. View OVATION aurora maps for the northern and southern hemispheres, NOAA space weather alerts and guides to the Kp index.

WATCH THE SUN
Browse solar imagery and animations of the Sun and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Export animations as GIF or MP4 to save or share.

OPTIONAL PREMIUM
Aurora Forecast Premium is an optional paid monthly subscription, purchased in the app. It adds curated regional aurora notifications and an hourly cloud forecast overlay on the 3-day Kp forecast. The subscription renews automatically each month unless cancelled. Manage or cancel it in your App Store subscriptions.

Forecasts are guidance, not a guarantee of seeing an aurora. Clouds, moonlight, light pollution and changing geomagnetic conditions affect visibility. Public data and imagery may be delayed or temporarily unavailable.
