About Checkly: Makeup Scanner
Know what's in your makeup, and what to do about it.
Checkly scans the barcode or the ingredient list on makeup, skincare, hair and body products and gives you a straight answer: a strict score out of 100, a written verdict, every ingredient explained, and better swaps.
ONE STRICT SCORE
Every product is scored the same way, from its ingredient list alone. Microplastics, fragrance, parabens, drying alcohol, silicones, mineral oil, talc, nanomaterials and more count against it. No brand can change a score. Where a list is read off a pack, Checkly says how much of it was recognised.
YOUR AI BEAUTY ASSISTANT
Mira, Checkly's beauty assistant, answers your questions about makeup and skincare: what suits your skin, what to look for, what to avoid. Her answers come with top picks ordered by their Checkly Score. AI can be wrong, and none of it is medical advice.
SCAN THE PACK WHEN THERE IS NO BARCODE
Many makeup products aren't in any open database yet. Photograph the front and the ingredient list and Checkly names the product and scores the list. Ingredient Spotlight highlights what counts, live on the pack or on a screenshot of a shop's product page.
EVERY INGREDIENT, EXPLAINED
Tap any ingredient for what it is and what it does, in one plain sentence, with the function it serves in the formula, why Checkly flagged it and the source it rests on.
BETTER SWAPS
Under every result: products of the same type that score higher, checked by Checkly.
FOR YOU
A home page with your shades (from a few quick questions), what's expiring on your shelf, your week in scans, and Mira.
YOUR SHELF
Keep what you own, with your own photo of each product. Checkly counts down the period after opening (the open-jar symbol on the pack) and can remind you before your mascara is due to go.
A MIRROR WITH A RING LIGHT
Check your makeup up close: the front camera inside a ring light, warm, neutral or cool, with zoom and a tap to freeze. Nothing is recorded.
INGREDIENT MATCH
Compare two products and see how alike their ingredient lists are, weighted by position: what they share and what differs.
HONEST ABOUT COVERAGE
Product data comes from Open Beauty Facts, an open community database, and from ingredient lists checked by Checkly. Only a small share of makeup has a complete ingredient list, which is why reading the pack is a first-class feature. If a product has no list, Checkly says so instead of guessing, and you can ask for it to be scored.
NOT MEDICAL ADVICE
Checkly is an information tool. It does not diagnose, treat, monitor or prevent any condition, and it is not a medical device. Product data is community-edited and can be incomplete, so always read the packaging.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account needed. Your history, shelf, photos and beauty profile are stored on your phone. To look a product up, Checkly sends its barcode. Text read off a pack, and the questions you type to Mira with the profile answers they need, go to Checkly's server and its AI provider; your photo
