About CHRO: Chromatic Aberration
CHRO is a camera for chromatic aberration: the red, green and blue fringes a lens throws off at bright edges, giving a photo or video a dreamy, filmic look. You see it live in the viewfinder, before you press the shutter.
ONE GLASS STRIP, ONE TRAY OF TOOLS
The strip under your thumb holds Look, Character, the shutter, Zoom and Adjust. Swipe the picture to change look; tap Character for the effect. Adjust opens one tray above the strip: Presets, Look, Character, Lens, Blur, Grain, Tone, Colour, Exposure, Focus and White balance. It is the same size for every tool and shows one slider at a time. Along the top, Flash, Timer, Live and Format open with a tap, and the gear opens Settings.
PHOTO AND VIDEO
Switch between PHOTO and VIDEO under the picture. In Photo, tap the shutter for a photo, or touch and hold it for a quarter of a second to record a short clip. In Video, the red shutter starts a clip with a tap and stops it with another. Format opens the choices for the mode you are in.
MANUAL CONTROLS, WITH A LIVE READOUT
Set shutter speed and ISO by hand, focus by hand, and white balance from four kinds of light or a colour temperature and tint; lock any of them where it is. A line at the top of the tray reads shutter, ISO, EV, focus and white balance live, in yellow where you set them.
RAW, QUALITY AND VIDEO FORMATS
Take Apple ProRAW (or RAW), or a HEIC with your look together with the RAW. Choose Speed, Balanced or Maximum processing, and 12, 24 or 48 megapixels where offered. Record video at 24, 25, 30 or 60 frames a second, as HEVC or H.264, at full size or 1080p, with stabilisation where offered.
LIVE PHOTOS
Turn on Live and each photo keeps about three seconds of motion and sound, saved to Photos as a Live Photo with your look on both. It is off until you turn it on. Open one from your library to put a look on the photo and its motion together.
22 LOOKS, AND YOUR OWN
Film: fourteen looks inspired by classic film stocks. Filters: eight colour grades, from Neon and Dispo to Terra and Arctic. Add looks of your own from a .cube file; rename, hide or reorder any look in Settings. All are live and baked into what you save.
CHARACTER, GRAIN, EDGES AND TONE
Character sets the lens aberration, the soft edges and the film grain together: slide up and all three grow, down to zero and they are gone. Grain comes in four patterns, Fine to Heavy. Soft edges melt the picture toward the corners. Three lens styles: Classic, Scope and Vintage. Highlights, Shadows, Sharpness, Saturation and Contrast shape the picture.
PRESETS
Save a look and its effects as a preset with one tap: three to start with, up to twelve. Touch and hold to replace, share or clear one; a shared preset joins your friend's row when they open it in CHRO.
EDIT AFTER THE SHOT
Open any photo or video from your library or Files and give it the same looks. Hold the eye to compare. Crop, rotate, trim a video, export a copy: your original is never touched. Select up to 50 to put a preset on

Latest updates
2.2
CHRO 2.2 gives the camera one tray of tools, manual controls, RAW, Photo and Video modes, and Live Photos.
• One tray of tools above the strip, the same size for every tool, with a live readout of shutter, ISO, EV, focus and white balance
• Photo and Video modes: in Video, a tap starts a clip and a tap stops it
• Manual exposure, focus and white balance, with locks
• Apple ProRAW or RAW, 24 and 48 megapixel photos where offered, video at 24 to 60 frames a second
• Live Photos with your look on the motion too, and editing them
• Your own looks from .cube files, tone sliders, shareable presets, Shortcuts
THE CONTROLS, REDRAWN
• Tap to open: Flash, Timer, Live and Format along the top, and a gear for Settings. Nothing to cycle, nothing to touch and hold
• Adjust is now the last button on the strip. It opens one tray: Presets, Look, Character, Lens, Blur, Grain, Tone, Colour, Exposure, Focus and White balance. Each tool shows one slider at a time, with a chip for each setting, starts on its first chip, and the tray never changes size. Look has a chip that opens the look list; Character is its own tool
• A tool or a value that is off its default turns yellow, and the Adjust button on the strip shows a dot; Reset puts back only the tool you are in
• Photo and video formats now live in the Format drawer, one place each; Settings is for looks, the viewfinder and About
• Easy and Full controls are gone: everyone gets the same camera
PHOTO AND VIDEO
• Switch under the picture. In Photo: tap for a photo, or hold a quarter of a second for a short clip. In Video: tap the red shutter to start, tap again to stop, with a Torch button of its own
• Format: in Photo, ProRAW or RAW, HEIC with RAW, Speed, Balanced or Maximum processing, 12, 24 or 48 megapixels (where your camera offers them). In Video, 24, 25, 30 or 60 frames a second, HEVC or H.264, full size or 1080p, and stabilisation where the camera's format offers it
MANUAL CONTROLS
• Exposure: shutter speed and ISO, or a compensation. Focus: by hand, near to far. White balance: Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, or a temperature and tint
• Lock exposure, focus or white balance where it is
• The line at the top of the tray updates live; values you set are yellow, and a lock reads AE-L, AF-L or WB-L
• A 180 degree shutter for video at 24, 25 and 30 frames a second
• Where a camera cannot do something by hand, the tray says so
LIVE PHOTOS
• Turn on Live: each photo is saved with about three seconds of motion and sound, with your look on both. Off until you turn it on
• Open a Live Photo from your library and put a look, effects or a preset on it, then save it as a Live Photo
LOOKS AND PRESETS
• Add your own looks from a .cube file in Files. Rename, hide and reorder any look
• Highlights, Shadows and Sharpness join Saturation and Contrast
• Up to twelve presets. Share one with a friend as a small file; it joins their row
• Ten Shortcuts actions, and a camera control for the Lock Screen and the Action button
IPAD AND LANDSCAPE
• The camera and the editor fit the room they have: the controls stand clear of the picture on a phone on its side, and an iPad gets a roomier layout
CAMERA FEEL
• Hold to record starts a quarter of a second after you press, with a rumble that builds under your finger
• The viewfinder keeps running while a photo saves
STILL HERE FROM 2.1
• 22 looks: 14 film, 8 filters. Film grain in four patterns. Soft lens edges. Character, one dial for the aberration, the soft edges and the grain
• A guided tour, batch editing of up to 50 photos and videos, and an editor with a Look slider, crop, rotate and trim

2.1
CHRO 2.1 adds film looks, grain and soft lens edges.
• 22 looks in two sections: 14 film looks (six are 1980s slide films) and the 8 filters
• Grain on photos and video, in four patterns, and in video it moves like film
• Soft lens edges: edge blur in two styles, Soft and Swirl
• Character (it was Magic) now dials in the aberration, the soft edges and the grain together
• Saturation and Contrast sliders, with any look or none
• New quick buttons on the viewfinder, three presets, a guided tour and batch editing
FILM LOOKS
• Fourteen film looks: Chrome, Pastel, Slide, Mono, Tungsten, Mint, Instant and Gold, plus six 1980s slide films: Carousel, Crimson, Daylight, Pushed, Cross and Magenta
• The look list has two sections, Film first and then Filters; film looks wear a film icon
• Camera Control, on iPhones that have it, picks from Original and all 22 looks
CHARACTER
• Magic is now Character. On the strip it sets the aberration, the soft edges and the grain together: the middle gives a 20% edge blur and a 5% grain with the fringe, all three grow as you slide up, and they are gone at zero
• A new install starts at the middle, and so does Reset effect. If you are updating, nothing changes until you move Character or tap Reset effect
• Lens, Blur and Grain each keep a Character dial of their own
GRAIN, SOFT EDGES, COLOUR
• Grain in four patterns (Fine, Classic, Heavy, Colour) and an amount, live in the viewfinder and the editor and baked into photos and video; in video it moves like film, 24 frames a second
• Edge blur softens the picture toward its corners and keeps the middle sharp; Falloff and Spread shape how far in it reaches
• Saturation: all the way down is black and white, all the way up doubles the colour. Contrast: lower for a soft, flat picture, higher for deeper shadows and brighter highlights; both are in Adjust, the "…" menu and the editor
FULL CONTROLS
• A quick row along the top: Light (Off, Auto flash, Flash, Torch), Lens (Classic, Scope, Vintage), Look strength (a third at a time), Blur (20%, 40%, 60%) and Grain (10%, 20%, 30%). Tap to step; touch and hold for the sliders, the blur style and the grain pattern
• Three presets: save a look with its strength, lens style, effects and colour, and bring it back with one tap
• The self-timer and the grid now live in Adjust, with Exposure; a badge on the shutter shows a timer
• Lens styles renamed: Film is now Classic and Cinema is now Scope. Your saved choice carries over
RECORDING AND THE TOUR
• Hold the shutter until the red ring fills and recording starts and stays on, with no sliding up to lock. Tap the red button to stop
• A one-minute guided tour on a new install shows what to press and for how long. "…" then Show the guide starts it again
THE EDITOR AND LIBRARY
• Effects brings Colour, Lens, Blur and Grain controls up under the picture, so you see each slider's effect as you move it
• A Look slider sets how strongly a look is applied; double-tap any effect slider to reset it
• Pinch to zoom in on the picture; rotate and crop now work on video too
• In the library tap Select, pick up to 50 photos and videos (or several from Photos or Files), put a preset on all of them and save an edited copy of each to Photos
STILL HERE FROM 2.0 (in case you are updating from an older version)
• A camera rebuilt around one glass strip
• Swipe the picture to change look; tap the shutter for a photo, hold it to record
• Easy or Full controls: Full puts a quick row and an Adjust panel in view
• A rebuilt "…" menu with the settings grouped on cards
• The flip button moved to the bottom right (beside the shutter in landscape)
• Trim video before you export
• Import from Photos or Files, from the thumbnail
• A landscape editor
• Camera Control support, on iPhones that have it
• Shots save silently to Photos; tap the thumbnail to open your library
• Haptics, VoiceOver and Dynamic Type
