About Curio: Nature Identifier
Point your camera at a plant, a fish, a rock or mineral, or a mushroom — and get a precise identification, not a confident guess.
Most identifier apps optimize for a fast, satisfying-sounding answer. Curio is built the other way around: when a photo genuinely isn't enough to tell two similar species apart, it says so — and names the physical test (a scratch, a streak, a spore print) that would settle it, instead of picking one and hoping.
FOUR CATEGORIES, ONE APP
- Plants — leaves, flowers, houseplants, and wild finds
- Fish — catches, aquarium fish, and wild species
- Rocks & minerals — crystals, gemstones, and geological finds
- Mushrooms — with safety built into the core of how results are shown, not as an afterthought
PRECISION OVER GUESSING
- Weighs the real diagnostic features for each category — leaf shape, fin pattern, crystal habit, cap and gill structure
- Distinguishes genuine look-alikes rather than defaulting to the most common species
- Honest confidence scoring, every time — never inflated to sound more certain than the photo supports
SAFETY IS NOT AN AFTERTHOUGHT
- Automatic hazard flags for toxic plants, venomous fish, hazardous minerals (radioactive, asbestos-bearing), and dangerous fungi
- Mushroom results carry a mandatory look-alike warning whenever a toxic species could be confused with what's shown — named specifically, not a generic disclaimer
- A clear, unmissable safety reminder on every single mushroom result: never eat a wild mushroom based on this or any app
- No invented dollar values for anything flagged as rare or collector-worthy — that requires real, physical, professional appraisal
ONE JOURNAL, EVERYTHING YOU FIND
- Every identification saved automatically with photo, date, and details
- Favorite the finds you want again fast
- Delete anything, anytime — your history is yours
HOW IT WORKS
1. Pick a category and snap a photo, or choose one from your library
2. Curio analyzes the features that actually matter for that category
3. Get a precise identification, safety flags where relevant, and key facts in seconds
Curio uses OpenAI's vision models to power identification. Your photos are sent securely for analysis and are never linked to your personal identity. Full details are shown before your first scan.
Note: Curio provides identification for reference and educational purposes only. Always verify independently before handling, touching, or consuming anything based on this app — and never eat a foraged mushroom without in-person confirmation from a qualified expert.
