About Element Symbols Quiz
Memorize element symbols, chemical formulas, ions and chemical equations with quick 4-choice quizzes.
A chemistry study tool for junior high and high school students: learn the periodic table, prepare for tests and review what you missed.
Covers all 118 elements, plus ionization and dissociation equations, redox half-reactions, and electrode reactions for batteries and electrolysis.
- 4 categories, 317 questions
Symbols: all 118 elements (atomic numbers 1-118)
Formulas: 92 (from water and carbon dioxide to organic compounds)
Ions: 39 (cations, anions and polyatomic ions)
Equations: 68 (chemical equations, dissociation and ionization, half-reactions of oxidizing and reducing agents, electrode reactions)
- Junior High / High School
Start from "Junior High" or "High School" on the home screen, and the questions match what you learn at that level.
Junior High: the most common elements, formulas and ions, plus chemical equations, dissociation equations and electrode reactions
High School: from a junior high review up to Chem. Basics and Chemistry, with all 118 elements
Your settings are remembered for each level.
- Focus on exactly what is on your test
Junior High: choose a whole grade at once with "Gr. 8" or "Gr. 9"
High School: choose a whole course at once with "Junior High Review", "Chem. Basics" or "Chemistry"
High school symbols can also be chosen by atomic numbers 1-20, by period (4 to 7), or by group: alkali metals, Group 2, halogens and noble gases
Ions can also be chosen as cations, anions or polyatomic ions
Or pick items one by one to build your own range
- Set up your quiz
Direction: Symbol to Name / Name to Symbol / Mixed (Formula to Name / Name to Formula for formulas and ions)
Equations: choose the correct equation for the named reaction. Wrong choices are based on common mistakes (coefficients, charges, the side the electrons go on)
Order: Random / In Order (atomic number order for symbols)
Questions: All / 10 / 20
- Review your mistakes
Questions you miss are saved automatically and removed when you answer them correctly
The results screen shows your score and lists the questions you missed and got right
Review only your missed questions anytime from "Missed questions" on the home screen
- Item list
Look up every element, formula, ion and equation anytime.
