Enigma Operator

In 1943, the most secret messages in the world were locked by a machine with 159 quintillion settings. Now it fits in your pocket.

Enigma Operator is a complete, historically faithful simulation of the two most famous cipher machines of the Second World War: the three-rotor Enigma I used by the German Army and Air Force, and the four-rotor Enigma M4 carried aboard the U-boats. Every rotor wiring, every reflector, even the machine's famous double-stepping quirk is reproduced exactly - verified against the historical test vectors. If it happened on the real machine, it happens here.

YOU DON'T JUST PRESS BUTTONS. YOU OPERATE THE MACHINE.
Open the lid and lift real rotors out of their box. Hear the most satisfying click of the real machine keystrokes. Set the ring positions. Plug the cords into the Steckerbrett. Scroll the windows to the day's ground setting and watch the signal race through a live wiring diagram with every key you press. Then sit down at the captain's desk, where the actual documents of the Kriegsmarine cipher system are waiting: daily key sheets, the Kenngruppenbuch, bigram tables, the Tauschtafelplan, allocation lists - all of them real, all of them working, all of them needed.

NEVER TOUCHED A CIPHER MACHINE? PERFECT.
A step-by-step interactive tutorial starts with a battery and a lightbulb and ends with you performing the complete, authentic Kriegsmarine decryption procedure by hand - the same document chain a U-boat radioman worked through in 1943. No experience needed. Just curiosity.

ALREADY KNOW YOUR ROTORS FROM YOUR REFLECTORS?
This is the deep simulation you've been looking for. Era-accurate procedures from 1937 to 1943, including the doubled message keys the Polish cryptanalysts exploited, the Kenngruppen system, M3/M4 compatibility, and the operator shortcuts Bletchley Park called "cillies" - because the weak link in the chain was always the human element.

SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY
- DAILY DECRYPT: one fresh intercept each day, for each machine, drawn from thousands of authentic daily keys. Same puzzle for everyone every day.
- SEND IT!: one message to encrypt each day - compose the full transmission yourself, preamble and all, exactly by the book.
- TICK TOCK SETUP: race the clock to rig the machine from a real key sheet.
- PROTOCOL PUZZLES: nine hand-built mysteries of garbled signals, lazy operators, and impossible indicators. Deduce what went wrong using nothing but the documents on your desk - with a pair of rhyming hints if you're stuck, and a secret or two for those who solve them all.

ALSO ABOARD
- A working notepad that keeps your worksheets
- Best times for every challenge
- Atmospheric sound, from the machine's keys to the hum of the boat -all optional
- Fully offline. No ads. No accounts. No data collected. Nothing between you and the machine.

Eighty years ago, breaking this machine took the best minds of a generation. Setting it up correctly took a nineteen-year-old with cold hands and a codebook. Tonigh
