About Gokai
Gokai accompanies the practice of Reiki. More than a timer, it is a practice companion that structures the session and marks the transitions between body positions with a bowl strike that fades slowly into silence, announced on iPhone by a discreet pulse. Where an alarm fractures attention, Gokai preserves the meditative state.
— The promise
No alarm. No notification during the session. No voice. No rising tone. On iPhone, each transition is announced twelve seconds ahead by a brief vibration; on iPhone and iPad alike, it is marked at the precise moment of the change by a bowl whose resonance decays over several seconds. The meditative state is never broken.
— Who it is for
Reiki practitioners in their practice room, in a session with a receiver or in self-treatment. Meditators looking for a timer that respects silence. Anyone who feels that an alarm or a beep breaks the quality of a session.
— The built-in protocols
Six reference sequences come pre-installed and can be freely edited:
• Full session (traditional Usui) — twelve positions, from the crown to the feet, then the back.
• Seated position — adapted to chair sessions.
• Chakras — the seven centers, named in Sanskrit.
• Quick treatment — five essential positions for a short session.
• On the table — twelve extended positions.
• Self-treatment — ten positions for personal practice.
You can also create your own sequences, reorder positions by dragging and adjust each duration to the quarter minute.
— The Practitioner tab
Beyond the session: the precept of the day, discreet reminders (hydration, breathing, a pause between two receivers), a practice journal with how you felt and a note after each session, one card per person you welcome lockable with Face ID, and four reference resources: the five precepts, the twelve hand positions, Cho Ku Rei, Hatsurei-ho.
— On iPhone, iPad and iPhone Duo
On iPad, the library and the chosen protocol side by side, a larger timer, the Practitioner tab in two columns, in portrait and landscape, and the keyboard to change position or pause. On iPhone Duo, the session moves from one display to the other without stopping and lays itself out on both sides of the hinge.
— Three bowl tones
• Bronze bowl — 220 Hz fundamental, rich harmonics, a decay of about ten seconds.
• Crystal bowl — brighter timbre, pure harmonics.
• Tingsha — Tibetan cymbals, short and incisive.
The bowls are synthesized in real time by the app. No compression, no latency. The volume is calibrated to stay around 45 dB in headphones at maximum level — present but never aggressive.
— Four signal modes
• Haptic and bowl — the recommended mode on iPhone, two complementary channels.
• Haptic only — on iPhone, for shared rooms or when silence must be absolute.
• Bowl only — for practices where the device sits at a distance.
• Visual only — for environments where any sound or touch interruption must be avoided.
iPad does not vibrate: it offers bowl only or visual only.
