About Kosher Scanner - Is it Kosher?
Kosher Scanner helps you check food before you buy. Scan a barcode or photograph the ingredient label to get a clear Kosher, Not Kosher, Uncertain, or Not Found result with the reason behind it.
Built for shoppers who need a fast second check in the grocery aisle, while traveling, or when a package uses unfamiliar additives and E-numbers.
What you can check:
- Food barcodes and package labels
- Ingredient lists from a clear photo
- E-numbers and additives such as E120 carmine, E471 emulsifiers, E441 gelatin, E904 shellac, and dairy-related ingredients
- Possible meat, dairy, pareve, or uncertain status
- Kosher symbols or certification marks shown on packaging
How it works:
1. Barcode scan: the app looks up product data and available label information.
2. Photo scan: AI reads the ingredient list or kosher mark from your package photo.
3. Ingredient analysis: the app checks known risk ingredients, E-numbers, animal-derived additives, dairy indicators, and source-dependent ingredients.
4. Result: you get a simple verdict with confidence, problematic ingredients, evidence used, and what to do next.
Important limitations:
Kosher practice can vary by community, certification authority, ingredient source, and manufacturing process. Kosher Scanner is a shopping assistant, not a rabbinical authority or official certification database. If the result is uncertain, or if your community follows a specific hechsher, check the package certification and your trusted authority before relying on it.
Privacy:
Photos are used to process your scan and return a result. For best accuracy, photograph only the package, ingredient list, barcode, or kosher mark you want checked.
