About MetaShield: EXIF & GPS Eraser
MetaShield protects your privacy by removing hidden metadata from photos before you share them — and lets you add GPS to photos taken without location data.
WHAT IS PHOTO METADATA?
Every photo your phone takes quietly embeds invisible data: your precise GPS coordinates, camera make and model, the exact date and time, lens details, serial numbers, and software version. When you share a photo, all of this goes with it — to strangers, clients, or the internet.
MetaShield shows you exactly what is embedded and lets you remove only what you choose.
SCRUBBER — REMOVE METADATA
• GPS Location — remove the latitude and longitude from every photo
• Camera & Device Info — strip make, model, serial number, and lens data
• Date & Time Taken — remove the timestamp of when the photo was captured
• Artist & Copyright — clean identity fields embedded by professional cameras
• Verification engine — every save is re-read from disk to confirm the data was actually removed
• Share directly from the app after scrubbing
GEOTAG — ADD LOCATION
• Select any photo (e.g. a DSLR shot without GPS)
• Tap the map to drop a pin, or search for a location by name
• The new GPS coordinates are written and verified
• Before and after comparison shows exactly what changed
PRESETS — ONE-TAP WORKFLOWS
• Social Safe — removes GPS and camera info (good for public posts)
• Client Share — removes GPS only, keeps camera info for professional delivery
• Full Scrub — removes all fields in one tap
• Create and save your own presets with any combination of fields
SHARE EXTENSION
• Scrub photos directly from the Photos app share sheet — no need to open MetaShield first
BUILT ON TRUST
• 100% on-device — no servers, no accounts, no network calls ever
• Non-destructive — your original is always preserved; recover any time via Photos → Edit → Revert
• No analytics, no crash reporting, no third-party SDKs
HONEST LIMITATIONS
MetaShield edits JPEG and HEIC files. RAW files and videos are not supported — iOS does not provide a non-destructive editing API for those formats. Some apps (WhatsApp, Instagram) strip metadata themselves on upload, so MetaShield is most useful when sharing via AirDrop, email, or direct file transfer.
