About Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC)
Electronic Navigational Charts are vector data sets supporting all types of marine navigation. Originally built for large commercial vessels using Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS), ENCs are now standard on simpler chart plotters used by recreational boaters too — providing real-time positioning and collision/grounding avoidance.

NOAA ENCs comply with the International Hydrographic Organization's ENC Product Specification and cover more than 1,000 datasets across U.S. coastal waters and the Great Lakes. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers produces the equivalent Inland ENC (IENC) product for many U.S. rivers.
