Obby French: Learn French

On the page, French looks almost familiar — then you hear it. Half the letters fall silent, liaison glues words into one long sound, and every noun hides a gender you simply have to know: le pain, la gare. Even friendly-looking words lie: attendre means to wait, not to attend. Vocabulary is what carries you past all of it, and Obby French exists to hand it over — 6,161 words, from bonjour and merci to advanced fluency, every one spoken aloud in native-quality audio.

LEARNING ON AUTOPILOT

One button, one habit. Launch Learning assembles each session on its own — you never plan, pick or set up anything. New words appear once on a short preview page before the quiz starts, so nothing ever breaks your answering flow. From there, FSRS spaced repetition schedules every word to come back right before your memory lets it go. Words that keep resisting are spotted and served gentler questions until they finally hold, and once your queue runs dry, refresher sessions revisit your strongest vocabulary so it stays strong. Everyone begins at A1; the rhythm bends to how you actually perform.

QUIZ-FIRST, ALWAYS

Quiz-first learning means every minute is spent answering, not reading lessons:
• Multiple choice both ways — French into your language, and flipped back
• Listening quizzes that tune your ear to liaison and silent endings
• Matching pairs when you want speed
• A speaker on every word — tap it to replay the audio as often as you like

Want the wheel? Configure quiz lets you choose session length, topics, CEFR level, direction and a timer. Review words is strict on purpose: it replays only what is actually due — no padding, ever.

WATCH YOURSELF LEVEL UP

The home screen carries a knowledge bar: how many words you genuinely know, where you stand on the CEFR ladder from A1 to C2, and a learner title that climbs with you. Streaks, word goals and 71 achievements chart the road — the last one waits for whoever has met all 6,161 words.

THE STORY

Obby is built by one person. I moved to Thailand, needed to actually learn the language — not greetings, the real vocabulary — and couldn't find an app that took an adult learner from beginner to advanced without accounts, ads and subscriptions in the way. So I built it myself, end to end.

The little mascot is named after Obby, a real Thai teacher whose classes inspired this app. A share of every sale supports her.

HONEST AND YOURS

• Free to try — one single purchase unlocks all 6,161 words, forever: no subscription, no ads
• No account and no sign-up screen: install, open, answer
• Runs 100% offline — the words and all their audio ship inside the app
• Zero data colle
