About SmallButBig: Time Blocking
Small days add up to big dreams.
An app for anyone working toward a big dream, one small day at a time. Made by one developer, shaped by the people who use it.
■ Why I made it
Right after high school, I skipped college and worked various jobs to earn money first. Then I chose experience over money and started college relatively late. I now study economics at Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea and am preparing to study in the U.S., dreaming of corporate finance on Wall Street in New York. Applying to top schools meant keeping a 3.98/4.0 GPA while managing many projects at once: assignments, volunteering, an on-campus job, tutoring low-income students, hackathons and public policy work. With so much I wanted to do and was responsible for, using each day well mattered.
But my tasks lived in a to-do app, my appointments in a calendar and my long-term goals somewhere else, so I kept switching apps to check, and things slipped through.
I needed one tool to track tasks, events, steady habits and workouts, see projects in one place from different angles, and fit it all into a timetable. So I used the coding I'd briefly done before college to build the app myself and solve my own problem.
The app my friends and I were using somehow reached 450 downloads within two weeks of its official launch, with people in Korea, Japan, the U.S., Canada, Israel and beyond using it and sending valuable feedback. Grateful and feeling responsible, I'm now on leave from school to develop it full-time. A precious chance has come, and I really want to build it well.
■ Why is the app called SmallButBig?
SmallButBig means small, but big. A day is small, but I believed no big dream comes true unless small days add up.
The icon's small checks once formed one big check; now three checks form a smiling face: an app that stays with you through small days until the day you smile.
■ Made together
- Every word from the people who use the app becomes a guide for the next update.
- When a bug is reported, my rule is to fix it that same day and submit it for review, so you can update the very next day. If you report it on a weekend, though, you'll get the update on Tuesday morning.
- Every bit of revenue the app makes goes into developing new products and features.
- Prices may also rise as the product's quality improves, but as long as you keep the subscription you first bought, you keep your first price, regardless of those increases.
- If the price is a burden or you're going through a hard time, please email me at [email protected] and tell me about your situation.
- The Mac app is sold separately on the Mac App Store.
■ Requires a purchase
There is no free version. Every feature requires a monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the period ends; cancel anytime in Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions. Prices are shown on the in-app purchase screen.
