About sqsl Interplay

sqsl Interplay
Experimental MIDI sequencer

(loosely inspired by minimalist technique = single score / many players progressing through score shifted in time)

About steps / values
- 128 steps, each step has 4 values that are used for PITCH, VELocity, TRIGger, note LENgth (ROWS)
- values are not set directly for each step by the user but are calculated using a waveform function with SHAPE, FREQuency, frequency MULTiplier, LOW and high EDGE, BIAS (pull toward lower or higher edge), and PHASE
- the set of calculated values can be shifted (by 1, left and right) and shuffled

- optionally, values can also be finger-drawn (approximately)

About LANES / GROUPS
- 15 lanes (divided into 3 groups), each lane has a START point, LENgth, and DIVider (speed of advancing)
- group parameters are GATE THRESHOLD, VELOCITY MULTIPLIER, LOOP LENGTH, REPEAT STEP probability, random RND STEP probability, DEGREE MASK (used for quantizing / pitch - see quantizer section), OCTAVE OFFSET and MIDI CHANNEL
- start, length, and divider are not set directly by the user, but are picked randomly from user-enabled ranges / possibilities (POOL = possible values)

- start, length, and divider can be rotated or randomized within lanes of selected AFFECTED GROUPS
- start, length, divider parameters can be stored/held in 5 available slots and fetched later
 (HOLD / FETCH)

About quantizer
- starting point is a SCALE of seven degrees defined by ROOT, MODE, and scale PATTERN
- triad morphing
: let's pretend that each seven degree scale is a result of a combination of 3 triad chords that share one note (root),
we can now "MORPH" the scale by rotating the building triads on the pitch wheel (preserving the chords' intervals and the rule that one of the chord's notes must align with the root note)
- degree mask (per group):
degrees can be removed to further limit the number of possible pitches (e.g. to work in a pentatonic scale)
- octave offset (per group):
if more than one position is activated, the octave is decided randomly on each trigger

About EVOlution
- 2 evolution engines with frequency (CYCLE), PROBABILTY and set of operations

- one random operation from the set will be executed at the end of the cycle

About CLOCK
- BPM, SWING, and modulation (CLOCK MOD: pitch values of the 1st lane of group A are used to increase bpm)

About MIDI
- HUMANIZE VELOCITY / TIME (random note delay)
-
MIDI CHANNELS per group (if more than 1 channel is selected, the final channel is decided randomly on each trigger)

Saving / presets
- sequencer state/settings (except MIDI output) can be saved in internal slots (5 pages x 33 presets) and also written to / read from an external file without stopping the playback

-- Notes --
Standalone only, no AU3v support. Fullscreen / landscape mode required (on iPad). Does not produce any sound of its own.
