About Steel Rain Call for Fire
Steel Rain is a Forward Observer training app for 13F (US Army) and 0861 (USMC) MOS soldiers, FOs, FSOs, JFOs, ROTC cadets, OCS candidates, FA OBC students, and anyone preparing for NCO/officer boards, the FIST certification, or company-level fire-support positions.
WHAT YOU GET
• BASIC TRAINING — Nine interactive classes covering Call-for-Fire format, mils & direction, map reading, OT-line corrections, the 15 subsequent corrections in doctrinal order, mil-relation range estimation, FO loadout, and fire support products. Each class follows a four-phase pattern: lessons → quiz → drills → complete. Per-attempt option shuffle. Earn XP and promote.
• FIRE MISSIONS — Live adjust-fire and grid-mission scenarios. Transmit calls for fire by voice using on-device speech recognition. Walk rounds in. FDC TTS voices respond in real time.
• ROC-V THREAT RECOGNITION — Identify 25 near-peer combat vehicles from silhouette: Russian armor (T-72, T-90, BMP-3, BTR-82), PLA platforms (Type-99, Type-96, ZBD-04, ZBL-08, HQ-9), Iranian variants (Karrar, Boragh, Fajr-5), and globally-fielded UAS (Shahed, Lancet, CH-4, Orlan-10). Practice mode for studying. Test mode for +50 XP per category passed.
• ADVANCED PILLAR — SGT-locked classes for senior FOs and promotion study: Immediate Suppression, Final Protective Fires (plan/register/call lifecycle), Danger Close + RED (the 600m working rule), and CAS 9-Line with Type 1/2/3 control and cleared-hot procedures.
• FIRE SUPPORT PLANNING PILLAR — SSG-locked, opens after all four Advanced classes. The senior planning curriculum: P1 D3A Targeting Cycle (Decide / Detect / Deliver / Assess and where the FO plugs in). P2 High-Payoff Targets & the AGM (HVT vs HPT, the HPTL, TSS, and reading the Attack Guidance Matrix). P3 EFSTs & the Scheme of Fires (the Essential Fire Support Task — TPME, task & purpose, method & effects, sequencing into a scheme of fires). P4 Integrating Fires with Maneuver (fires nested in the maneuver scheme — SOSRA breach fundamentals, trigger lines, phased fires, and a worked deliberate-breach example with the FO's exact lift/shift call).
• FIST CERT PREP — 298 ATP-grounded MQF questions for the Joint Fire Support Mandatory Qualification File. Every answer cross-checked against the source publications (ATP 3-09.30 Observed Fires, ATP 3-09.32 JFIRE, FM 3-09 Field Artillery Operations, JP 3-09 Joint Fire Support, JP 3-09.3 Close Air Support) with the verbatim doctrine reference in every explainer. Official MQF test composition: SL1 = 50 SL1 questions, SL2 = 50 SL1 + 25 SL2, SL3 = 50 SL1 + 25 SL2 + 25 SL3. Practice mode, mock test mode, missed-question spaced repetition, and flashcards.

Latest updates
1.1.0
v1.1.0 — BinoView. Put the binos up on every fire mission.
Tap OBSERVE on the mission map and you are behind 7x binoculars from your OP, looking at real terrain. M22-style mil reticle. Pan the sector, tilt, cycle 7x / 12x, lase the target for range.
The optics are honest. The reticle ticks are true mils, the terrain is rendered at the same scale, and targets are sized by mil relation. A tank at 700 m is ten mils long, not a cartoon. Read the width off the reticle, apply W x 1000 / mils, then lase to check yourself. That is the drill.
Targets sit on the ground where they belong. From an elevated OP the road, treeline, or hill at the target's range is below the skyline, and that is where the binos open. Short rounds land short. Overs land over. You will see it.
Effects on target. When rounds score, vehicles and bunkers flash, then burn with a smoke column. Personnel go down. Dust hangs at the impact. Misses splash where they land, so a correction reads the way it does through real glass.
Eleven scenarios each have their own photoreal panorama composed for the mission: the MSR for the convoy, the wood line for the treeline fights, the crossroads for the light armor, the river for the crossing, moonlight for the night patrol.
Also in this release: dependency updates for the current SDK.
Built by a 13F with 20 years AD. Standards-only. Doctrine governs.
