About Strobe Vinyl
Strobe turns your iPhone's flashlight into an adjustable stroboscope — a simple way to check whether your turntable is actually spinning at the speed it claims.
Place a standard strobe disc on your platter, dial Strobe to the frequency your disc is calibrated for (commonly 50 Hz for European mains-based discs), and watch: if the pattern holds still, your speed is right; if it drifts, you'll see exactly which way.
HOW IT WORKS
- Pick any frequency from 1 to 50 Hz with a simple wheel picker
- Tap once to start — the flashlight flashes at exactly that rate
- Change frequency on the fly, even while it's running
- A clear black/mustard screen shows at a glance whether it's on
BEYOND THE TURNTABLE
Any job that calls for an adjustable flash rate works here too — rotational speed checks on other spinning equipment, motion studies, or just a strong strobe effect.
AN HONEST NOTE ON ACCURACY
Strobe is a simple, honest tool: a torch flashing at a frequency you set, nothing more. It is not a certified calibration instrument — at higher frequencies, hardware flash-switching latency means the real-world rate can drift slightly from the number shown. Use it as a helpful visual reference, not a lab-grade measurement.
PRIVACY
No account, no ads, no analytics, no network access at all. Strobe never leaves your device and stores nothing between launches.
Requires a device with a working flashlight. Not available on iPad or devices without a torch.
