About Tafahum: Quran Vocabulary
Stop reciting without understanding.
Do you read the Quran every day but struggle to connect with its meaning? You are not alone. Tafahum teaches you the vocabulary of the Quran, word by word and root by root, so you understand what you recite.
Unlike general Arabic courses that start with complex grammar rules, Tafahum focuses on the 4,700+ words of the Holy Book, starting with the ones that appear most.
Why it works
• The most frequent words first: just 61 words make up half the text of the Quran, 500 cover 81%, and 4,000 cover 99%. Keep going and you will know every word in it.
• Reviews at the right moment: the FSRS spaced-repetition algorithm estimates when you are about to forget each word and brings it back just before. You learn faster, remember longer and study less.
Key features
1. Learn what matters first
• By frequency: start with the words you meet on every page.
• Surah by Surah: preparing for Taraweeh? Learn the words of Al-Mulk, Yasin, Al-Kahf or any Surah, and see how much of each one you already know.
• By theme: words grouped by meaning, such as faith, nature and ethics.
2. Every word, fully explained
• 4,700+ words: every word of the Quran, nothing left out.
• 1,600+ roots: see how one root links a family of words. K-T-B gives kitāb (book), kātib (writer) and kutiba (prescribed).
• In context: every word inside real Ayahs, with a word-by-word reader for each Surah.
• Audio: hear the pronunciation of every word.
• 15 languages: meanings and the whole app in English, Urdu, Bengali, Indonesian, Malay, Hindi, Turkish, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Albanian and Bosnian.
3. Practice your way
• Multiple choice or typing, Arabic to English or back again.
• Practice a whole root family or a whole Surah at once.
4. Stay consistent
• Daily goal: 10 minutes a day, and see the exact day you will reach your target.
• Streaks and an activity heatmap keep you coming back.
• Sync: sign in to keep your progress on all your devices.
Accessible to everyone
We believe understanding Allah's words should be within everyone's reach.
• Try everything free for 7 days.
• Fairly priced, and if you can't afford it, choose free access in the app: 30 days at a time, renewable as often as you need.
• Private: we never sell your data.
Who is it for?
• Beginners: start by understanding your Salah.
• Hafiz and students: connect what you have memorized to its meaning.
• Busy Muslims: learn in short sessions of 5 to 10 minutes.
Tafahum: turn your recitation into understanding.
