About Tagfern: Markdown & XML Viewer
Tagfern turns tag-heavy XML and raw Markdown into clean pages you can read, search, edit and export.
Open a Markdown file and it looks like a document: headings, lists, tables and code blocks, ready to edit right on the page like a word processor. Open an XML export, feed or config file and see its contents as a tidy document, as collapsible cards for each record, or as a color-coded tree, instead of a wall of angle brackets.
BUILT FOR iPHONE AND iPAD
• Open files from Files, iCloud Drive or any other location, or start a new Markdown or XML file.
• On iPhone, open an attachment from Mail or a file from Files and read it right away. The contents list, the view menu (Document, Cards, Tree, Split, Source) and PDF sit in the top bar beside the document's name, and PDF opens the share sheet.
• On iPad, Split View, Slide Over and Stage Manager work, and the toolbar adapts to the window size.
• With a keyboard on iPad: Command-1 to 5 switch views, Command-F searches, Shift-Command-E exports a PDF. Every shortcut is in the menu bar.
MARKDOWN, EDITED IN PLACE
• Tap into the page and type. Format with the toolbar or type / for headings, lists, tables and code blocks.
• Your file stays clean Markdown. Opening and saving without changes leaves it byte-for-byte identical, and edits rewrite only what you changed.
• Split view shows the Markdown source beside the page (below it on iPhone). Edit either side and the other follows, and drag the divider to give either side more room.
XML, MADE READABLE
• Document view: headings and bullet points instead of tags.
• Cards view: every record as a collapsible card, with attributes shown as labels.
• Tree view: the raw structure, color-coded and collapsible.
• Pretty-print or minify, and see instantly whether a file is well-formed, with the exact line of any error.
FOR LONG DOCUMENTS
• A table of contents sidebar to jump between sections, with the one you're reading highlighted.
• Search across any view.
• Export a clean, paginated PDF and share it with the share sheet.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No accounts, no tracking, no uploads. Tagfern works entirely on your iPhone or iPad.
Opens .md, .markdown, .xml, .plist, .svg, .rss, .atom, .xsd, .xsl, .kml and .gpx files.
