About Tone Out: Fire Run
The tones drop. You have the address. Now get there. No GPS, no turn-by-turn, just you and the grid.
Tone Out is a driving game made by a real firefighter. On the job, a lot of us are expected to know our first-due area well enough to respond without a map: read the address, picture the block, and go. Tone Out lets you practice that skill in Kettle Falls, a fictional town built to be learned.
LEARN THE GRID
• Numbered streets run north–south. Animal-named streets run east–west in ABC order: Antelope, Badger, Coyote…
• House numbers follow simple rules. 718 Badger St is always between 7th and 8th St, and odd numbers are always on the north side.
• Every building shows its house number, plus a school, a nursing home, apartments, a strip mall and more.
• Mill Creek, one-way pairs and only three bridges make your route choice matter.
RESPOND
• Alert tones, a dispatch card, the bay door rolls up, and you're out the door.
• Drive the engine with simple thumb controls.
• Arrive fast and clean for up to 3 stars. Curb hits and wrong-way driving cost you time.
• 30 calls to unlock and master.
FREE PLAY
Cruise anywhere in town with a live block readout ("600 block Falcon St") and an optional map. Learn the grid at your own pace.
WHY IT EXISTS
I built a much bigger version of this app to study my own response area. Tone Out is a small, light version of that idea in a made-up town, so anyone can try it: new firefighters, volunteers, EMTs, dispatchers, or anyone who likes a good driving challenge. A lot of departments work the same way. You have to study your area, and once you've learned one grid, the next one comes easier.
