About Weather, Actually
Weather, Actually tells you the forecast in plain words. When you want more, it shows your whole state's weather in 3D and opens up the data forecasters work from.
THE FORECAST, PLAINLY
• Now, the next 24 hours, and the week. No ads, no clutter.
• Three detail levels: Super basic for a glance, Basic for every day, Nerd for everything.
• US or Metric units, and a light or dark look (or follow your phone).
WIDGETS
• Home Screen widgets: Now, Rain soon, a 3D map of your state, and a Nerd board of four readings you pick.
• Lock Screen widgets: a small circular one and a rectangular one for the current conditions.
YOUR STATE IN 3D
• A 3D model of your state, built from real elevation, with lakes and rivers.
• Layers you can turn on and off: radar rain with a short look ahead, temperature across the ground, cloud cover, and wind you can watch move.
• A time bar plays the last hour of radar and the next six hours of forecast.
• Spin it, tilt it, zoom in. Press and hold anywhere to see the elevation, wind, clouds and rain at that spot.
NERD MODE
• Hour-by-hour charts: temperature, dew point, humidity, cloud cover, wind and gusts, rain chance and amount, snow, visibility, and more.
• Forecaster notes: the written discussion from your local forecast office, in full.
• Station reports: airport weather reports (METAR and TAF), decoded line by line.
• Forecast scorecard: how close recent forecasts came to what happened.
• Climate & history: how today compares with past years.
• Sun, moon & UV.
NO STRINGS
No ads, no account, no subscription, no in-app purchases, no tracking. Your location is used only to get your forecast, and you can pick a city by hand instead.
WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM
Forecasts, radar and observations come from free public sources: the National Weather Service, NOAA MRMS radar, the Aviation Weather Center, ACIS climate data, the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, and the EPA UV Index. Terrain comes from public elevation data. Your location goes to these weather data services and to Apple for place names, never to the developer.
US ONLY
The data covers only the United States, so the app works for US locations only.
PLEASE NOTE
Weather, Actually is not an official source of weather warnings. For warnings and life-safety decisions, use weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio, and Wireless Emergency Alerts. Data can be delayed or missing. Station reports are not for flight planning. Weather, Actually is not affiliated with or endorsed by the National Weather Service or NOAA.
