About Window Seat - Trains
Take the window seat.
The curtains part, the platform slides away, and an hour-long journey rolls past: rice valleys and cedar hills, Alpine passes and lake shores, sea cliffs and olive groves, high plains under a big sky, the tides of the St. Lawrence, palms and paddy on India's west coast. When the train pulls into the station, the next journey departs.
It's a living world, not a video. Every journey is built as the train moves, a stretch of track at a time: the route, the land, the towns, the weather, the hour of the day. Houses, barns, temples and chalets are drawn from code as they're placed, so no two are quite alike. Windmills turn, laundry ripples in the wind, birds bank over the river, herds lift their heads as you pass. A festival lights up at dusk. A storm rolls off the mountains. Leave it running all day and you won't see the same hour twice.
SIX RAILWAYS
- Japan: rice valleys, onsen towns, cedar hills
- The Alps: lake shores, chalets, mountain passes
- The Italian Riviera: sea cliffs, olive groves, palazzi
- The Colorado Rockies: high plains, ranch country, downtown Denver
- Québec: along the St. Lawrence, Québec City to La Malbaie
- India: the Konkan coast, Ratnagiri to Goa, past palms and paddy
ON IPHONE AND IPAD
- Turn your iPhone on its side for the full view; upright, the curtains open wide. On iPad, any way up, full screen or in a window beside your other apps.
- Tilt it and the view shifts like a real window: near fences sweep past while the mountains barely move. Set it down and the view keeps a gentle drift of its own.
- Tap to pause, swipe for the next place, or use the arrow keys and Space on a keyboard. In Settings, choose which railways the train visits and set the speed, from 0.75× to 2×.
- The screen stays on while it plays, so you can prop it up on a desk or a bedside table.
- Kind to OLED screens: nothing stays still. The scenery always rolls past, and the curtains and compartment sway and drift too slowly to notice, so no edge stays on the same pixels. You can also hide them in Settings.
- Bring your own soundtrack. Window Seat never interrupts your audio, so play music or a podcast from any app and let the scenery roll.
- No account, no ads, no in-app purchases.
UNDER THE ENGINE
Dozens of regions, hundreds of unique objects, and 400 small stories woven through the journeys: dolphins alongside the train on the Riviera, a Corpus Christi procession in the Alps, Diwali night on the Konkan coast. Depth-sorted 3D and a moving gaze give the view real perspective, and it adapts to your iPhone or iPad to stay smooth.
