More accurate JLPT levels
The level on each word card now comes from JLPT word lists for the word itself. Before, many words took the level of their first kanji, so 犬 showed as N4 and 企業 as N1.
Better furigana
Hundreds of readings fixed: 間 read as あいだ where it should be, food words such as 牛丼 (ぎゅうどん) and 麻婆豆腐, and well-known people's names such as 大谷翔平. Names the dictionary doesn't list are marked as a best guess.
Fewer empty word cards
Common words such as 人 (ひと), 店 and 私 now open their dictionary entry, and long-vowel spellings find their own word.
Your free articles last longer
Opening your own text, Aozora Bunko books or the sample no longer uses up one of your 5 free articles.
Also: Privacy options in Settings where ad consent applies, and dictionary credits (JMdict and JMnedict).… more - 📈YoMoo: Japanese Reading & News entered the top 100Top Free · Magazines & Newspapers · BR

About YoMoo: Japanese Reading & News
Japanese reading practice with real news, JLPT passages and your own text. YoMoo puts furigana on every kanji, colours words by JLPT level, and gives you the reading and meaning of any word with one tap.
READ JAPANESE NEWS AT YOUR LEVEL
Every news story has the Original and an Easy version. Switch between them in the reader: read the Easy one first, then the Original. The Easy version is written by AI from the original, so details can differ; the Original is the source wording.
JLPT READING PRACTICE, N5 TO N1
Practice passages for each JLPT level, plus How-To articles. Words are coloured by level (N5 to N1) with a legend, so you can see at a glance how much of a passage is at your level.
TURN YOUR OWN JAPANESE INTO A LESSON
Paste text, scan a printed page with the camera (text recognition runs on your iPhone), or open a .txt, .md, .srt, .vtt, .csv or .json file. Learners use it for:
- emails and documents from work or school
- restaurant menus (check scanned text against the original, as camera reading can mistake one kanji for another)
- stories that ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude wrote in Japanese about things they like
Your own text, Aozora Bunko and the sample are always free. PDF and Word files can't be opened yet.
FURIGANA AND A DICTIONARY ON EVERY WORD
Sentences are split into words, so you can see where one ends. Tap a word for its reading, meanings, part of speech and JLPT level. Show furigana on every kanji, or only on the levels you choose. The dictionary has over 250,000 words and readings from JMdict and JMnedict.
SAVE WORDS, REVIEW THEM, EXPORT THEM
Save any word with one tap. Saved words come back for review (Again / Got it) on a spaced-repetition schedule, with a quiz and flashcards. Export your list as a CSV file that Anki and spreadsheets open.
LISTEN AND SHADOW
Text-to-speech reads the article with the current sentence highlighted, at the speed you set. Shadowing mode plays each sentence, you repeat it, and the last round hides the text. YoMoo does not record or score your voice.
JAPANESE CLASSICS FROM AOZORA BUNKO
Read public-domain literature from Aozora Bunko with the same furigana and dictionary.
