Zurkhai: Tibetan Calendar

Zurkhai is the traditional Buryat-Mongolian Buddhist almanac and calendar — a daily companion based on the lunar calendar studied in datsans for centuries. Calculated by the classical Pugpa school of Tibetan astronomy.

This is a cultural-educational app for the Buryat, Mongolian, Tuvan, Kalmyk, and broader Russian-speaking Tibetan Buddhist communities. It is not Western horoscope or fortune-telling — it follows specific Pugpa-school calculation methods documented in printed Buryat almanacs.

WHAT'S INSIDE:

• TODAY — Lunar day, animal sign, element, haircut guidance from tradition, what activities the almanac recommends or counter-recommends, next Buddhist holiday.

• COMPATIBILITY — Classical 4-parameter analysis: 5 Mahabhuta (elements), 12 Zhil (animals), 8 Parkha (Bagua directions), 9 Menge (Lo Shu karmic marks).

• BIRTH CHART — Personal year animal, element, Menge mark, and Suudal direction calculated from your birth year.

• MEDITATION — Shamatha timer, nine-round purification breathing, seven-point Vairocana posture guide.

• EDUCATIONAL COURSE — 12-lesson "Introduction to Buddhism" course with quizzes, 20-term glossary of Tibetan-Buddhist concepts, biographies of 17 teachers from the Buddha to Dalai Lama XIV.

• PLACES — Maps and details for 40 datsans (Buddhist monasteries) across Russia, Mongolia, Tibet, India, Nepal, USA, and Europe.

Tradition: Pugpa school of Tibetan-Mongolian Buddhism. Calculations verified against printed Buryat almanacs (Yampilov-Galsanov "Zurkhai-3", Atsagatsky Datsan publications).

Disclaimer: For important decisions (marriage, child's birth, relocation) please consult a qualified lama-zurkhaichin at a datsan.

Calculations stay on your device.
