Creaky Hinge

Creaky Hinge turns the hinge of a foldable iPhone into the hinge of an old oak door. As you open the phone, the door on screen opens with it, and the creak you hear follows your movement. Open it slowly and it groans low and loud. Move quickly and it thins out to a faint squeak. Stop, and it goes quiet at once.

The door hangs on the fold itself, so it swings about the same line the phone bends on, from shut at 0° to flat against the stone wall at 180°. A candle lantern hangs on the wall beside it, and as the gap widens, light from the doorway spreads across the floor.

There are three recordings to choose from: an old door, a squeaky gate and a cellar door. With vibration on, the Taptic Engine follows the creak and gives a dull knock when the door reaches either end. Sound and vibration have separate switches.

If your iPhone doesn't fold, the app says so on screen and you swing the door with your finger instead. With VoiceOver, swipe up or down on the door to open or close it.

You pay for it once: there are no ads and no in-app purchases. It needs no account, works offline and collects no data. Requires iOS 27.1. Available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Russian.
