- 📦Preview3D updated to version 1.5.1Colours from more 3MF files
• A 3MF that changes colour at a height — a filament change (M600) in PrusaSlicer, or a change to another filament in Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer — now shows its colours, each starting at the layer where the print changes.
• A model made of parts printed in different filaments shows each part in its own colour.
• Both used to come out grey: only painted models showed their colours.… more - ✏️Preview3D: description updated· IT

- 📦Preview3D updated to version 1.5.0Pull a model apart
• A STEP assembly — or an STL or 3MF made of separate bodies — can be pulled apart with a slider in Model info. Pick a part in the list and the rest turn grey.
• AR shows a model at the size it really is, when the file says what its units are.
• A large STEP file shows how far it has got — reading, tessellating with a progress bar, building — and Cancel stops it.
• Painted 3MF files, coloured STEP parts and G-code toolpaths show their true colours; they used to look paler than in the slicer.
• In Quick Look and the Files thumbnails, the parts of an assembly sit where they belong; on a large assembly some used to float apart.
• Model info measures an assembly as it stands, with every part in place.
• A model that looks wrong can be reported from the More menu, on a form on the website. The app itself sends nothing.
• A newer STEP kernel: circle edges close, small bores come out round and more models report as watertight.… more - 📈Preview3D entered the top 10Top Paid · Graphics & Design · AE

- 📦Preview3D updated to version 1.4.2Wireframe that looks the same every time
• An STL opened straight into Wireframe drew every one of its triangles — a solid smear on a detailed model — and only switching to “Shaded with edges” and back gave the clean view. Wireframe now always shows the model's edges and outline, whatever came before.… more - 📈Preview3D entered the top 100Top Paid · Graphics & Design · DE

- 📦Preview3D updated to version 1.4.0Three ways to look at a model
• Shaded, shaded with its edges, or a wireframe — from the toolbar on iPad, or the view menu on iPhone.
• The edges of a STEP file are the real ones its CAD system drew, not the boundaries of triangles. A mesh gets its crease lines instead, so an STL still reads as the shape it is.
• Wireframe keeps the faces present but unpainted, so the far side of a part does not show through the near one, and an outline traces the silhouette.
• On an iPhone held upright, a wide model used to run off both edges. It fits again.
• A small part in a large file came out coarse — a 6 mm gear had a sixteen-sided bore and a faceted hub. How finely a curve is divided now follows the part's own size rather than the file's units; small parts come out smooth, large ones are unchanged.
• A narrow strip on a large curved face used to be triangulated across the curve instead of along it — two straight chords where a rail should bend. Fixed.
• A closed spline edge could be read the wrong way round, leaving a seam where a surface should have closed. Models that reported as not watertight may now report as watertight.
• Assemblies open faster: their parts are now cut from the mesh already computed instead of being tessellated a second time.
• Opening another file while a large STEP is still loading stops that load inside the kernel, rather than waiting for it to finish.
• Panel text, legends and the file-type list are legible in both appearances — measured on screen rather than guessed — and a model stops turning by itself when Reduce Motion is on.… more - 🆕Preview3D first spotted by AppInsider#13 in Top Paid · Graphics & Design · United Kingdom

About Preview3D
Open a STEP file from a vendor, a painted 3MF from your slicer, or an STL someone sent you, and see it instantly — in the app, or right in the Files app with Quick Look and 3D thumbnails. No web uploads, no account, no clutter.
SUPPORTED FORMATS
• STEP / STP, STL, OBJ, PLY
• glTF / GLB, USDZ / USD, COLLADA (DAE)
• 3MF — including painted multi-material prints
• FBX, 3DS, X3D, LWO, MS3D, AC, AMF, OFF and more (via Assimp)
• G-code and PrusaSlicer binary G-code (.bgcode)
REAL STEP SUPPORT
Preview3D reads STEP with a pure-Swift B-rep kernel: watertight tessellation and crease-aware normals straight from the exact geometry, so cylinders stay smooth and edges stay crisp. Files that carry colors (STYLED_ITEM) render each part in its assigned color.
INSPECT
Open the info panel for bounding-box dimensions, volume, surface area, watertightness and structure — solids, faces, edges, triangles and vertices.
3D-PRINTING FILES
Open your slicer's G-code or PrusaSlicer .bgcode, orbit the print toolpath in 3D, flip to the embedded preview image, and read the print stats — time, filament, weight, layer height and material.
3MF, IN FULL COLOR
Multi-material painting from PrusaSlicer and Bambu Studio is decoded and rendered in its filament colors — including fine sub-facet brush detail — so you can preview a finished multi-color print before it leaves the slicer. Colors written into a 3MF by CAD tools and converters show too.
SEE IT IN YOUR ROOM
View your model in AR with AR Quick Look — place it on your desk or the floor and walk around it.
QUICK LOOK & THUMBNAILS
Preview supported files right in the Files app, and get real 3D thumbnails — including STEP, painted 3MF, COLLADA (DAE), FBX and 3DS that iOS can't render on its own. Keep your models in the Preview3D folder in Files and reopen them anytime.
SHARE
Send a PNG snapshot of the current view to any app. Placing a model in AR? Share it as USDZ right from there.
BUILT FOR IPHONE AND IPAD
A real native app built on SceneKit and Metal — quick to launch, quick to orbit. Fully offline: everything runs on your device, no account, no network. iOS and iPadOS 17 or later.
BUY ONCE, USE EVERYWHERE
Preview3D is a universal purchase: one purchase covers the iPhone, iPad and Mac apps. The Mac version adds PMI / GD&T (AP242) reading, assembly trees with per-part isolation, and one-click conversion to STL, OBJ, GLB and USDZ.
Note: measurements are produced by automated tessellation and are provided for convenience — always verify against your authoritative CAD source for manufacturing-critical work.
