About Tanpura Lab
Find a musical centre, then let it become a soundscape.
Tanpura Lab is a tanpura drone lab for practice and ambient exploration. Choose a shared note and Sa–Pa or Sa–Ma tuning, then shape each tanpura with its own level, stereo position and effects. Keep a simple drone, or slowly build a more spacious sound.
CHOOSE YOUR NOTE
Choose from 26 recordings: twelve pitch classes in each tuning, plus low A Sa–Pa and low D Sa–Ma. Set the shared note on Home, switch tanpuras on or off, and balance their levels.
GO AN OCTAVE DEEPER
Each tanpura has a tape-octave button. Half-speed playback lowers it by one octave and slows the recorded plucks.
EXPLORE THE PEDALS
Give the sound a slow breathing movement. Explore six reverb characters, delay and saturation, then shape the balance with five tone bands. Each tanpura keeps its own effects, level and stereo position.
START SIMPLY. MAKE IT YOURS.
Ten Starter Sounds range from clean two-tanpura pairs and gentle trios to fuller ambient layers. Tweak a sound and Save your changes. Save As makes an independent Saved Sound, and Rename helps you organise your collection. Your presets stay on your device.
KEEP THE DRONE GOING
Play while using another app or locking your screen. Tanpura Lab mixes with lesson audio and other music. The included recordings and effects work offline.
Designed for iPhone in landscape. No account or microphone permission is required.
