About PitchRef: Chromatic Tuner
PitchRef is a concert pitch reference. It shows the exact frequency of every note in equal temperament, at whichever A4 standard you work in, so the number you need is always in front of you.
Pick a reference pitch, pick an octave, and the table fills in: all twelve notes, each one in hertz to two decimal places. Change the reference and the whole grid moves with it.
PitchRef is a reference table, not a listening tuner. It does not use the microphone. It gives you the number your instrument should be tuned to.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Switch between five reference standards: A4 = 440 Hz (modern), 432 Hz, 442 Hz (orchestra), 415 Hz (baroque) and 466 Hz (high baroque)
- Read all twelve notes of any octave from 0 to 8, C0 up to B8, 108 notes in all
- See every frequency to two decimal places, from 16.35 Hz at C0 to 7902.13 Hz at B8 on the 440 standard
- Compare a historical tuning against a modern one by tapping between two references
- Calibrate an analog tuner to a target number instead of trusting its own scale
- Enter exact frequencies into your DAW when you are working to a set pitch
- Check the maths yourself: the About screen states the formula and the MIDI numbering behind every row
- Read it with no connection, in the light or dark appearance your device is already set to
- Use it on iPhone and iPad
WHO IT IS FOR
Orchestral and ensemble players who tune to 442. Early music players working at 415 or 466. Piano technicians, luthiers and repair techs who need a target number rather than a needle. Producers working to an exact frequency in a DAW. Teachers and students who want to see how equal temperament is actually built.
PRIVACY
PitchRef collects nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, no tracking and no advertising. The app makes no network requests, so everything stays on your device and the table works with no signal.
Every number comes from one formula, applied the same way every time: f = A4 * 2^((n-69)/12), where n is the MIDI note number. Set your reference once and read the pitch you need.
