About Set Aside: Freelancer Tax QC
Employment income arrives with the tax already gone. Self-employment income arrives whole, and the bill turns up months later. Set Aside tells you how much of each payment to keep back so it never surprises you.
Enter your revenue and your expenses for the period you work in, monthly, quarterly or for the year. Set Aside runs it through the 2026 federal and Quebec tax brackets, basic personal amounts and QPP figures and gives you one number to move aside, plus what that is as a share of your revenue.
WHAT IS IN THE NUMBER
- Federal income tax on the 2026 brackets, with the basic personal amount and the Quebec abatement applied.
- Quebec income tax on the four provincial brackets, with the Quebec basic personal amount.
- QPP at the self-employed rate, where you pay both halves, and the second QPP contribution above the first ceiling. Half of it is deducted from your taxable income, a simplified version of the real QPP deduction.
- QPIP on your net earnings, up to the maximum insurable amount.
- The GST and QST you collected and owe, if you are registered. Turn the switch off if you are not.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Switch between monthly, quarterly and annual and see the figure per payment, not just per year.
- Turn GST and QST registration on or off and watch what it does to the amount.
- Read the set-aside as a percentage of revenue, which is the number worth remembering.
- Save any estimate, pin the ones you keep coming back to, and share a clean breakdown.
- Read the rates, basic amounts and QPP ceilings behind the maths on the About screen.
- Switch the app between English and French with one tap. The parameter table on the About screen stays in English.
WHO IT IS FOR
Quebec freelancers, consultants, contractors and anyone billing on their own account. Especially anyone in their first or second year, when nobody has yet explained that QPP alone is 12.8 percent.
PRIVACY
Set Aside makes no network requests. There is no account, no sign up and no cloud. Your figures stay on your phone.
Set Aside is an estimate, not tax advice. The GST and QST shown is tax collected before input tax credits, and the income tax figure assumes business income with no other source. Check anything that matters with your accountant.
