About TipsGlobal: Tipping Guide
TipsGlobal answers the question that arrives with every bill abroad: what do I tip here, and what is that in my own money? It covers 36 countries across 7 regions, explains in plain language how tipping actually works in each one, and splits the bill when it lands. Everything is bundled into the app, so it runs with no signal and no connection.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Read a plain-language guide to how tipping works in each of 36 countries, service charges and cover charges included.
- Check the customary amount for seven services: restaurants, taxis and rideshares, hotel porters, housekeeping, bars, cafes, and spas or salons.
- See where no percentage tip is customary at all, as in Japan, and where a service charge is usually on the bill already, as in the United Kingdom and Brazil.
- Split a bill between 1 and 50 people, with each person's share of the bill and share of the tip shown separately.
- Start from the customary restaurant percentage for the country you picked, then change it with one tap.
- Round the total up to the next whole unit and let the tip absorb the difference.
- See the total, the tip and what each person pays in your own currency as well as the local one, across 27 currencies.
- Set your exchange rates by hand, edit any of them, and reset the table whenever you want.
- Search a country by name or filter the list by region, and open your last country again from the home screen.
WHO IT IS FOR
Anyone who has just landed somewhere new and is not sure what the local convention is. Business travellers who need dinner split correctly. Holidaymakers who would rather be neither rude nor overcharged. Anyone who wants to read the bill in their own currency before paying it.
PRIVACY
TipsGlobal makes no network requests of any kind. There is no account, no sign-in, no tracking and no advertising. Your home country, your home currency and any rate you edit are stored on your device only.
The app follows your light or dark appearance and runs on iPhone and iPad.
Tipping customs are guidance rather than rules, and they vary by venue, city and season. Converted amounts use the rates you enter yourself, so treat every one of them as an estimate. Always check the bill for a service charge before you add a tip.
